INDIANAPOLIS -- Police pursueed on Friday for the killers who barged into a family circle and shot seven family members to death in the worst mass manslaughter in Indianapolis in at least 25 years.

The bodies of three striplings ages 5 to 11, were set up on a bed, and four adult relatives were discovered elsewhere in the house after the Thursday night robbery and massacre that distaffed the working- class neighborhood.

Police said the attackers -- a witness reported seeing three or four men post out of the back of the house -- were armed with assault rifles.

A search of a hearth just blocks from the shooting exhibition for the main suspect -- 28-year-old ex-convict Desmond gymnast -- turned up empty after police officers fired tear gas in and broke down a door Friday night.

delegate Police Chief Tim Foley said investigators believed gymnast had been at the house earlier Friday.



"That useed out to be a craving drink hole, although we believe it was beneficial information when we got it," he said.

Police arrested another man, 30-year-old James Stewart, without incident after a traffic stop Friday afternoon in connection with the shootings. Foley said Stewart was awaited to be charged with assassinate

Police Chief Michael Spears said investigators had received scores of tips.

"He is not comfortable here," Spears said of gymnast "The police department is applying a tremendous amount of crushing to him. The community is applying a tremendous amount of pressure"
