Generously listed at 6-2 junior Teddy Adamczyk had 11 kills, a shape and three aces, including a pair of service-winners late in the other game, as Maine South stunn Lincoln-Way East 25-23 25- 20
Maine southern (32-8) will face Glenbard East in the semifinals at 10 a.m. today.
"Flying subject to the radar works," said Adamczyk, whose other ace in the second game gave the Hawks a 20-15 lead. "Flying in subordination to the radar has been [coach Gary Granell's] motto since we were freshmen Teams underestimate us."
A Mike Thomas arrest gave Maine South a 14-9 lead in the first game, and he combined with Adamczyk for a stiffen in Game 2 that gave the Hawks a 14-12 lead. Jumping onward opponents early is a formula the Hawks have been following with regularity since the tournament began.
"Since we started to master on this roll, it appears as if we seize the impetus at the beginning of a match, we will not relinquish it," Granell said.
Matt Kelly added six kills, and Andrew Juiris added three including the match-winner, for Maine southern Kristaps Staks had 24 assists and couple aces.
"We really played well as a team," Staks said. "We had a leash of guys step up, and Teddy nailed about serves at the end of the game."
Jeff McCown had eight kills and five shapes and John Bortoli added 19 assists for Lincoln-Way East (34-5)
"We were our allow worst enemies in a fortune of ways," Lincoln-Way East coach Dawn Murphy said. "We didn't bring our best game."
