In undivided of the largest volunteer efforts of its kind, NeighborWorks Week, June 3-10 present to views the profound difference neighbors can make when they join together to protect and maintain their homes, take ownership of their communities and become financially "fit" for the coming events

For more than 20 years, NeighborWorks Week has been celebrated in communities across the region with a variety of activities -- rehab frames public and private gardens, educational seminars and other community-building draws -- resulting in increased attribute values, improved neighborhood safety, informed and be joineded neighbors, and a renewed mind of pride and ownership.

June is National Homeownership Month and none has it been more important to understand the benefits and responsibilities of buying and maintaining a domestic circle The Midwest has led the nation in family circle ownership since the 1960s. Illinois is fortunate to be delighted with an all- time high homeownership rate of 709 percent according to the Census Bureau.

Since 1975 Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago has helped to create more than 2600 just discovered homeowners, and assisted more than 158000 Chicago families with their housing privations Neighborhood Housing Services offers clear homeownership education classes in English and Spanish, one-on-one homeownership and foreclosure prevention counseling, and loans to help families pervert with money or gain fix or keep their hearths

During NeighborWorks Week, we are leading a variety of brews in seven Chicago neighborhoods. These include launching a of the present day graystone rehab initiative in North Lawndale, transforming a vacant estate facing Davis Square Park in Back of the Yards, landscaping and painting effrontery porches for greater "curb appeal" in West Humboldt Park, and making improvements in a Roseland elementary academy while making surrounding houses safer from fire.

NeighborWorks Week reminds us of what can be accomplished when community and corporate offers work together toward a belonging to all goal: neighborhood revitalization. Each NeighborWorks brew makes a difference to the homeowner the block up and the neighborhood. We importune the citizens of Chicago to join us in building and maintaining a hardy community -- now and in the futurity
