THE CLAIM: Teva, a company that put up to sales a natural fern extract in pill form in subordination to the name Heliocare, says a daily dose can help patronize against sunburn, sun-related aging and plane genetic mutations that cause skin cancer.

THE EVIDENCE: In the December 2004 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, researchers construct that the pill dramatically decreased sunburn for what reason the extract works isn't completely understood, said Harvard scientist Salvador Gonzalez, if it were not that it is believed to be an antioxidant that "sponge up" potentially harmful proper states created by sun exposure.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Dermatologists say preliminary evidence proposes the extract does protect against the orb of day -- but don't throw away your sunscreen still No large-scale safety studies have been published upon Heliocare. The pills cost about a dollar each. As research continues, doctors approve that Heliocare be used in addition to sunscreen
