Regarding "How tollway lease plan can hit all bases" [featured alphabetic character May 30]: I think that leasing the tollway order is a stupid idea. The tollway combination of parts to form a whole is a Chicagoland regional asset, not a state asset.
As [writer] David F Schulz mentions, we should use the lease of the tollway to pay not upon the outstanding tollway debt. I musing that was what we were doing by means of paying tolls. The bonds for the tollways should have been paid against years ago and the tollways made freeways as promised.
Now, we have state Sen Jeff Schoenberg introducing a bill that will guarantee that the tollway users will be in perpetual sin just not to the state. The politicians in Springfield better restrain their hands off the tollway classification For too long now, the clan in the northern part of the state have had to pay sum of two units taxes -- toll and gas taxes -- to pay for the use of our roads, while those in Downstate and other parts of Illinois acquire a free ride.
As for calm the remote suggestion that any of the circulating medium from a sale should go on foot to prop up state pensions, forget it. The so-called public servants in this state have had it too beneficial for too long. Workers in the private sector (see United Airlines) are losing their pensions left and right, further we're supposed to prop up pensions of persons who get discounted health care and six-figure pensions! The one in the private sector is prosperous to get health care and 401(k) at all.
The governor and the Legislature should heed the warning from a voter You have to learn elected to keep your job! Don't lease the tollway -- make them freeways!
