The Chicago Sun-Times and the Anti-Defamation League's Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest region are sponsoring a pupil essay contest on the importance of the First Amendment in our everyday lives. scholars in grades 6 through 12 are invited to write or image an essay, on 8- by-11-inch paper, forward the following:
"How do you use the First Amendment in your everyday life?"
scholars are asked to study the issues outlined in the First Amendment and then apply them to their 21st hundred lifestyle. Does the Constitution still have relevance in their lives today?
Details:
- Essays will be judg based on: creativity, originality, concision, well-organized writing, correct grammar and following the theme.
- pupils for the 2006-07 school year will be jot downed in one of three grade groups:
Grades 6-8: 500-600 words,
Grades 9-10: 700-800 words,
Grades 11-12: 900-1000 words.
- united entry per student, please.
- All entries must be postmarked by dint of June 30, 2006. Winners will be notified in succession or before Sept. 1, 2006
- In each grade cluster a first-place winner will win $500 and a runner-up winner will receive $100 The winners will be invited to attend a recognition dinner held by the agency of the Anti-Defamation League on Oct 5
- Entries should be mailed to: Chicago Sun-Times, Attn: NIE- First Amendment, 350 N Orleans, 10 southern Chicago, IL 60654.
To avoid disqualification, a stapled secrete sheet must include: your name, address and phone; your e-mail address (if available); the name and address of your school; and the grade horizontal you will be entering in the fall. Essays must be solely the work of the entrant. Employee of the Sun-Times and the ADL, their board of directors and their immediate family members are not eligible for this call in question
