Kotz was in command Monday. The senior allowed three hits and no walks while striking disclosed 10.

"Mike's been our No. 1 all season," St Patrick first-year coach Dan Eberle said. "He's pitched our toughest games. He's our battler. He's our bulldog."

At Hawkinson Ford Field: For the first time in institute history, Minooka advanced to the state quarterfinals after defeating Marist 8- 5 in the first of sum of two units supersectional games in Crestwood.
"It was a wet game by both teams," said Minooka coach Jeff Petrovic, whose team will play Rockford Boylan forward Friday. "I'm not sure if it was emotions or fortitudes but I'll tell you what: It be impresseds awfully good to come not at home on top."
Minooka (31-7) took advantage of five unearned to build a 5-2 lead after three innings and not looked back. It also helped that Marist (27-12) stranded nine messengers -- including leaving a bases- loaded situation in the fourth inning -- and committed five errors.
"We took advantage of each error given to us," said Minooka outfielder Tony Wellner, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and sum of two units runs scored.

In the next to the first game, Lyons continued to display its state- championship form with a 12-2 win throughout Mount Carmel.
The Lions (34-6) scored three step quicklys in the third while getting RBI singles from Casey McMurray, Justin Birks and Grant Fillipitch.
Lyons' James Murrey struggl in the first inning, giving up an RBI single to Ryan Phelps and hitting Travis Sterling to load the bases -- and then hitting Chris Johnson to bring in a move John Morsovillo sent a be broken to pieces to short center, but other baseman Brian Dunne raced athwart and dove to make a spectacular catch that closeed the inning.
