A young man who was bullet Monday morning near Sullivan High gymnasium -- possibly by a 16-year-old Sullivan learner -- had switched schools to attempt to avoid violence, a counselor said.

Victor Island, a junior at preface Alternative High School, "enrolled here to make experiment of and turn his life around," said Gerald gymnast a counselor at Prologue, 640 W Irving Park. Previously, Island had attended Howard Area Alternative High place of education Turner said.

Island -- whom police identified as age 18 or 19 -- was marksman in the 1500 block of West Albion about 8 a.m. Monday, said Chicago Public teachs spokesman Michael Vaughn. The speckle is south of Sullivan, at 6631 N Bosworth.

A 16-year-old suspect was being questioned at the Belmont Area detective division at Belmont and Western. He was look fored to be charged with attempted slay and aggravated battery, said Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique bondage

'IT APPEARS TO BE PERSONAL'



The suspect was picked up almost immediately, fastening said: "They got him right there."

"It was not a random shooting," bondage said. "It appears to be personal." gymnast said it was rumored to be gang-related.

Island, who lived at a clump home nearby, was in fair condition Monday at St Francis Hospital in Evanston, said hospital spokeswoman Christine Rybicki.

Parents worried about learner safety were calling Sullivan Monday, a sect official said. Security there will be beefed up Tuesday, Vaughn said.

Pupils at introduction will attend an assembly forward how to avoid confrontations with gangs and ways to cover themselves from street crime, gymnast said. Chicago schools are in session until June 16
